We are obviously living in a very strange world, with the Covid 19 virus changing how we live and interact in our society. However, music has continued to show the power of unifying people, and bring us all together. The music that has been released of the past 4 months has been amazing, with artists now giving time to sit and focus on their song writing and perfecting their craft. Here are 5 of my favourite new tracks for the second half of 2020.
SYLVAN ESSO – FERRIS WHEEL
I love this piece of pop genius, with a great film clip to coincide with the visuals created by the lyrics. It’s fun and vibrant, and is on repeat in the car.
BEC SKYES – EDITHVALE
I was hooked from the first second I heard this song, it pulls your heart strings in all directions. I’m so excited this track is getting the recognition it deserves. Bec is a wonderful artist with a bright future.
EUCA – NOT CHAMPANGE
This is just a chorus for the ages, anthemic and powerful, the kind you can’t help but sing along to, the kind you can’t wait to hear again and again.
BEN SALTER – STRING PACKETS (PITCH & YAW)
I’m a lifelong Ben Salter fan, and I got my copy of his new album ‘Summer of the Loud Bird’ in the mail yesterday, and this track immediately struck me as a standout. The direction of the album as a whole has moved from singer songwriter to percussive and ambient, with a sonic palate that would make Radiohead gasp with jealousy. String Packets reminds me of David Bowie’s latest album Blackstar, but is angular and unique in its own right. Short but sweet, I always want it to keep going.
BOOTLEG RASCAL – OH SO COOL
This is one of my favourite Bootleg Rascal tracks to date, and as a live powerhouse I can’t wait to be in the crowed jumping around to this one.
