Come and dive into the ambient, hazy realms of Brisbane alt-prog rockers inovo with the group today releasing a brand new single Swim Alone. An atmospheric and immersive outing that meshes grooves with moody textures, inovo’s new track also comes armed today with a visceral accompanying music video, drawing you deeper into the band’s sonic universe ahead of inovo officially launching Swim Alone in their hometown on Friday 31 March at BackDock Arts in Brisbane.
Peter Hook & The Light at The Tivoli (Nov 25th 2022) – My all time biggest influence on bass guitar is Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order, Peter Hook & The Light). I was lucky enough to get to see him and The Light play a whole tonne of Joy Division and New Order songs last year at Tivoli for my birthday and I could’ve died from how happy I was. Getting to hear some of my favourite basslines live made me feel a whole lot better about turning 34!
Anathema at The Triffid (Oct 29th 2015) – This is a very special memory for me. One of the other bands I’m in, Balloons Kill Babies, got to support Anathema during their acoustic set tour of Australia back in 2015 and I have never been so excited and so nervous for a gig in my entire life. Getting to have the whole mezzanine floor to ourselves to watch their amazing set afterwards was the best a massive fan could ask for.
Gregory Alan Isakov at The Triffid (March 6th 2019) – I remember my brother buying us both tickets to this show as a birthday present to me since we’d shared a love for his GAI’s music for years. Finally seeing him live with my brother was such a beautiful and surreal experience, and we even met him and his band after the show and shared some laughs. I really treasure that memory.
Devin Townsend Project at The Triffid (May 20th 2017) – Another amazing memory. I had just attended a seminar hosted by Dev himself the day before and learned about how to adapt to the changing music industry, and then saw his band play a show that I’ll never forget the day after. The energy was insane, the crowd was loving it, I was front and centre singing along with every track, I managed to nab the setlist and I even got to hug Dev at the end of the show along with the rest of the front of the crowd. He’s one of my musical heroes, and it’s hard to describe how important that experience was to me.
Northlane and Sleep Token at the Tivoli (June 25th 2022) – I’ve been to plenty of gigs but this is the only one I can remember post lockdown! This was special because I finally got to see SLEEP TOKEN – Everyone was there for them! I’ve been to the tivoli a bunch of times but never have I had to line up a couple of streets away for an hour or so to get in! Sleep Token are definitely one of the best live acts I’ve seen in a long long time and I can’t wait to catch them again in April this year!
